Poltrona Frau is situated in Tolentino, Italy. ‘Poltrona’ means seat and ‘Frau’ is the family name of the founder that opened a furniture factory in Torino in 1912. HISTORY

If you ask for ‘Una Frau’ in Italy, everyone knows what you mean; a luxurious lounge chair with leather upholstery. Poltrona Frau is - other then its name would suggest - a purely Italian furnutire factory, started in 1912 by Renzo Frau in Tolentino next to Turino. He put the Italian word for seat in front of his name and the Poltrona Frau brand was born. In 1962, the company ownership changed to Franco Moschini, who rejuvenated the organisation and ensured that the name ‘Poltrona Frau’ would remain a worldwide brand known for high-quality design.

COLLECTION

Combined with an extensive collection for both personal and professional use, the factory manages a great rnage of prestigious projects. These are often ‘custom made’, developed toghether with the client and designer. You can encounter Poltrona Frau all over the world; in the auditorium for the Philips headquarters, the new ING-headquarters, Teatro Lauro Rossi in Macerata, the VIP-room at Schiphol-airport, the upholstery in a Ferrari 360 Modena or the BMW 5 series, the European parliament in Strasbourg and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

DESIGNERS

A large part of the classic pieces from the Poltrona Frau collection originate from the Archives, an extensive collection of furniture pieces that have been gathered in its near century of existence. New pieces are developed by an internal Research & Development group and by a selection of the most famous designers in the world.

PRODUCTS

Poltrona Frau owns its historical profile to its extensive range of lounge chairs and club chairs. This range has been extended in the past decades with a beautiful series of sofas and dinig room chairs. For the project market, several lines of office furniture have been developed specifically for the executive office.
